DogHouse Doodles Guardian Home Program

In order to give our dogs the very best life possible, it is important to limit the number of dogs we permanently keep in our home. But in order to breed the highest quality dogs possible, we need to continually evaluate and add quality bloodlines to our breeding program. In order to do this we offer our Guardian Home Program. Guardian Homes allow us to expand our breeding program in the most loving and responsible way possible. In order to be considered as a Guardian Home, you must live within an hour of Gilbert, AZ (85297). You must also be flexible to drop off and pick up the dog for any health testing, vet visits, breeding, and whelping puppies.

In addition you must agree to the following:

  • You must own your own home and be prepared for a home-visit and provide references prior to the dog/puppy being placed in your care.

  • Keep the dog safe and contained at all times-must have a fenced in backyard.

  • Never leave the dog off leash-NO dog parks allowed!

  • Take the dog to the vet for regular vet care. DogHouse Doodles pays for health testing and breeding-related vet expenses while the dog is in our program. The guardian is in charge of all routine, pet-related vet expenses, just like you would with any typical pet dog.

  • Provide basic training that is standard for dog ownership (house, leash, and crate training, and basic obedience).

  • Keep the dog free of mats and tangles, and have the dog groomed on a 6-8 week schedule with a professional groomer.

  • Feed our recommended diet (Purina Pro Plan).

  • No plans of relocating within the next 5 years.

  • Understand that we are waiving the purchase price of the dog in exchange for a service- you must be willing to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with us during their time in our program, and be dedicated to providing a safe, loving home for the lifetime of the dog.

As a Guardian Home, you would get a high quality pick of the litter pup free of charge. You would be the puppy’s forever home while DogHouse Doodles retains the breeding rights of the dog. This would start at sexual maturity and ends when the female has had up to four litters or if keeping a stud, when the male is 5 years old.

While the dog is in our breeding program, DogHouse Doodles will pay for all breeding related expenses. Guardian Homes are responsible for all other “pet” expenses and maintenance including but not limited to grooming, food, pet related vet care (annual vaccines, parasite prevention, etc)

Once the dog is of sexual maturity, DogHouse Doodles will decide when to breed and to whom. For studs, Males will be dropped off for mating at discussed times/days and will go back home that day. Please note: Males often need to mate 2ce (one to two days apart) with the female to ensure a successful pairing. For dams, Females will stay with their Guardian Family during pregnancy (normal gestation is about 58-63 days) and she is returned to us a few days before her due date-(usually around day 52) to deliver, whelp and raise her puppies. Once the puppies are weaned (usually anywhere between 6-8weeks) the female will be ready to be picked up by her Guardian Family. When your dog has completed all of his/her breeding obligations, DogHouse Doodles will pay for their spay/neuter and release full ownership of the dog to you so that they can enjoy their wonderful life you have provided for them since puppyhood.

There are many things that Guardian Families need to consider. Guardians of females have to deal with several heat cycles and keeping their females protected from unwanted males. Guardians will also have to be comfortable spending time away from their dog for an extended period of time (typically around 2-3 months for each litter). The Guardian Family will need to learn the signs of a heat cycle and be willing to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with us to ensure a successful breeding. If keeping a male dog for our breeding program, Guardians will need to consider the importance of keeping him properly contained to prevent unwanted litters. He would not be able to go to public, off-leash areas such as dog parks, doggie daycares, etc.

We value and view our Guardian Home Program as a true “win-win” situation. Our Guardian Families receive a “pick of the litter” quality puppy free of charge in return for working with DogHouse Doodles during the breeding years of the dog, and we have the satisfaction of knowing that our breeding dogs are living life as a cherished family member.
